When a recipient's account details are reissued, the previous EUR IBAN stops accepting payments. A payment sent to it afterwards is not credited to the recipient and is not swapped to USDC. The bank returns it to the account it was sent from.
What happens to the payment
The money is not lost. Nothing lands on the recipient's account and no swap runs — the bank pushes the payment back to the account it came from. This is ordinary banking behaviour for a transfer to an account that no longer accepts payments.
How long it takes: usually within 24 hours, and a few days at most. The exact time depends on the banks involved, so it is not something Fiatswaps controls or can speed up.
One thing Fiatswaps cannot do is re-point a payment that has already been sent to retired details at the recipient's current account. Once it has been sent, it completes its return and has to be sent again to the correct details.
Important: Update the details on every platform before the next payout runs, so the same thing doesn't happen twice.
Check where the payment was sent
The payout confirmation from the platform is the record of the account the money actually went to. Compare it with the recipient's current details:
- Go to My Recipients and open the recipient.
- Open Payment methods and select the EUR or USD tab.
- Compare the account named on the payout confirmation with the details shown.
A confirmation can name a different account from the one the platform's payout settings show now, so read the confirmation itself rather than the saved settings.
Update the details on every platform
Replace the retired details everywhere they are saved, for every recipient:
- Open Payment methods for the recipient and select the EUR or USD tab.
- Click Copy all instructions.
- Paste them into the platform's payout settings, replacing the old account.
- Save, then reopen the settings and check the platform shows the new account.
If it hasn't come back
If more than a few days have passed and the money has not reappeared on the sending account, contact Fiatswaps support so we can trace it. Send:
- The recipient's name.
- The amount and currency.
- The date the platform sent it.
- The account details the payment was sent to.
- The payout confirmation from the platform.
We trace it from our side and tell you what we find. You don't need to contact the banks yourself.
